Blood donation campaign at OptoTech

50 units of blood and 1,285 euros donated to DKMS

Not a hospital, but OptoTech's canteen in Wettenberg: the blood donation campaign raised 50 units of blood and 1,285 euros in donations.

The OptoTech canteen in Wettenberg recently looked like a hospital. The Giessen-Marburg University Hospital had set up a blood donation station here, where OptoTech employees gave plenty of this vital liquid.

The idea for the campaign came from OptoTech employees. The Corona pandemic has led to a sharp drop in the willingness to donate blood. This is a problem for hospitals, which depend on blood donations to ensure the safe care of their patients, for example after an accident or an operation.

Action quickly implemented

OptoTech heard this call and immediately acted on it. The blood donation team at the university hospital was quickly contacted and an appointment found. Within four hours, a total of 50 employees donated blood. At the same time, a bone marrow donation typing was carried out. For each blood donation made, OptoTech also paid an amount of 25 euros into the donation box of the DKMS (German Bone Marrow Donor Center) - in total, the proud donation sum of 1,285 euros was collected.

"The campaign was a complete success!" said a delighted Stefan Leib, chairman of OptoTech's works council. "The fact that we were able to realize a total of 50 blood donations on this day is a very nice thing. However, according to the university hospital, this amount just covers the demand for half a day." Further blood donation campaigns are therefore to take place in the future.

"We from the management have supported the proposal of the blood donation campaign from the beginning and are happy about the great result," says Jens Schäfer, Managing Director of OptoTech. "Perhaps we could hereby give an important impulse to other companies in the region. Imitators are very welcome!"
