Why – the challenge

The Ästhetik-Gesundheits-Zentrum Darmstadt (AEGZ) is converting an office floor into a cosmetic clinic.

Among other procedures, the clinic will carry out plastic surgeries, dermatological treatments, and hair transplants. The clinic requires an HVAC system that supplies two 30 m2 operating theatres of room class 1b and two additional rooms of room class 2 for aesthetic treatments with air-conditioned, germ-free air. The ancillary rooms are also included in the system.

Space is very limited, with no dedicated equipment room available.

An existing fresh air conditioning system can be integrated into the air conditioning concept. Since the installation of the air conditioning system also requires new fire dampers to be installed, close coordination with the responsible fire protection authority is necessary.

How – The idea

To optimally coordinate the climate control system with the building modifications and integrate the existing central outdoor air unit, the hygienic climate concept is developed in close collaboration with the customer, hygiene institute, and architects .

Due to the extremely limited space in the room class 1b operating theatres, a minimal solution based on DIN 1946-4 is developed.

This does not comply with all points of the standard, but is recommended from a hygienic perspective and is coordinated with the hygienist and health department during the preliminary design phase.

Thermal and hygienic air treatment in both operating theatres is provided by a compact wall-mounted climate control unit and an external air-cooled condenser/compressor unit.

The climate control units are installed directly in the operating theatres.

In the room class 2 spaces, supply air is routed through a secondary air cooling unit and filtered in two stages.

What – the solution

Vindur RoomIn WV 20.2 and Vindur TOP D12

The two 30 m2 operating theatres of room class 1b are each climate-controlled by a wall-mounted mixed-air unit Vindur RoomIn WV 20.2

.

Since the unit depth is only 40 cm, the climate control units can be easily placed in the operating theatres despite limited space. The system is designed for an air volume of 1,800 m3/h, with an outdoor air volume of 350 m3/h per operating theatre.

The Vindur RoomIn  climate control units filter the supplied heat-treated outdoor air in  three stages (F7, F9, and H14 filters), achieving the desired low particle count. Integrated silencers ensure a  maximum sound level of less than 48 dB(A) at maximum airflow.

Operation is intuitive via the icon-based intelli.4 control system.

In the room class 2 spaces, a Vindur TOP secondary air unit ensures hygienic air cleanliness according to DIN 1946-4. It is ceiling-mounted and, in accordance with the standard , easily accessible, easy to clean, and easy to maintain. It operates with two filter stages and reliably minimises the microbial load in room air through additional safety features such as a silver-ion coating.
