WHY | The challenge.
BAG Diagnostics GmbH based in Lich develops diagnostic solutions for transfusion and transplantation. To produce highly specific HLA antibody tests, the company requires a Class 7 cleanroom according to DIN EN ISO 14644 as well as laboratory space in accordance with TGRS 526 and VDI 2051. Both are to be integrated into an existing building.
The climate control technology for the cleanroom and laboratory is to be managed by a single control system. External components must also be integrated into the system. The cleanroom system is to be air-conditioned using an energy-efficient recirculation method with a defined proportion of fresh air. The laboratory ventilation system must support four airflow levels, including hazardous substance operation.
With approximately 9 m² of space, the equipment room offers limited space for the climate unit, network cabinet, BMS cabinet, and electrical sub-distribution.
HOW | The idea.
The climate and ventilation systems for the cleanroom and laboratory are planned to include the cabin, flooring, airlocks, pass-through chamber, and chilled water network.
The climate control for both rooms is managed via the integrated standard control system within the recirculating air unit. Customer-supplied components are integrated through existing interfaces and customized programming adjustments.
For temperature control in the laboratory, a fresh air unit with interfaces for the fan, filter monitoring, and valves is integrated into the control system. The standard control system is also individually programmed for this setup.
WHAT | The solution.
- Vindur Compact 55.5 CWD
- with intelli.4 control system
The new area consists of a 9 m² equipment room, a 43 m² cleanroom of Cleanroom Class 7 with personnel and material airlocks, and a 60 m² laboratory. As requested, the cleanroom has been prepared for potential future GMP certification.
The cleanroom is air-conditioned via a Vindur Compact 55.5 CWD climate unit. The compact climate unit enables pure recirculation mode with a fixed fresh air volume of 300 m³/h and maintains a temperature stability of ± 2.0 K and a humidity stability of ± 5.0% r.h. In the laboratory, a two-part central climate unit handles fresh air conditioning. In normal operation, the airflow volume is 300 m³/h. At a fourfold air exchange rate, it increases to 840 m³/h, at sixfold, to 1,260 m³/h, and in hazardous substance mode, to 1,680 m³/h.
The intelli.4 control system is integrated into the climate unit and operates independently. It manages all control, regulation, and monitoring functions for the climate unit in the cleanroom, the central climate unit in the laboratory, and one additional third-party device. This allows the entire climate control system to be operated uniformly via a color touch screen. Error messages from both rooms can be displayed centrally and are sent to a central email address. In addition, remote control via the building management system, tablet, or smartphone is possible.
The advantages at a glance:
- Planning and construction of cleanroom and laboratory
- Preparation of the cleanroom for GMP
- Installation of cleanroom cabin and flooring
- Integration of customer-supplied components
- Delivery of a complete climate control system
- Custom programming of the control system for both rooms
- Installation, commissioning, and cleanroom class verification
